If I’m buying a new home, are there some policies or types of homeowners coverage that are better than others? The home is less than 10 years old and I want to make sure it gets the best coverage possible. Thanks!

Not really. A homeowner’s policy will cover you regardless of the age of the home. You may want to shop companies to make sure you get the coverage you want.

You will want a policy that offers replacement cost, that way if the home or contents are destroyed you get what it cost to replace the home or item, not what the home or item is worth. Other than that, any of the major companies will have very good plans. Start with your auto insurance agent. You’ll get a discount on both the home and auto premiums if you have both with one company.

Yes. But it varies WILDLY by location. Not all companies write insurance in all states.
You’re going to have to contact a couple local, independent agents, and ask them which companies they have, who are really competitively priced on new houses. Your credit score matters, too, as well as the house construction, the cost to rebuild the house, etc.
