If you can show the zoning board that you are not alone with your views, that a few hundred other people think like you do, they will listen.

I had a similar problem, and I was surprise how even my local bank felt the same way I did.  The local bank liked operating in a community and saw what was happening to be destroying the community.  Other small business owners felt the same way.
