Making Home Made Italian Meatballs

Posted by admin on April 8th, 2010 and filed under homes | 25 Comments »

Here we go making another Italian dinner that we all enjoy so much. Thats right home made Italian meatballs. We makes the sauce and the meatballs. You can have them with any pasta dish or even on an Italian roll.

You can also add a half of chopped onion in the sauce and the other half in the meatballs for more flavor.

If you don’t care for garlic then you can completely replace the garlic with a whole onion.

Disclosure!!

I dont cook meatballs in a crockpot but at that time we were living in a smaller house and it was not easy filming a frontal view of the preparation without making some compromises for the video. Behind the scenes the gravy was simmering slowly in the pot on the stove while the meatballs were being rolled. Due to moving away from NY where all the good ingredients are for Italian food I had to compromise with the items I found down south.

Here is the way I prefer to make the meatballs, but of course I can’t give away all the family cooking secrets. I uses hard Italian bread instead of regular bread, I also use a little bit of bread crumbs in addition to the bread, the eggs are the same, the cheese I prefer fresh pecarino romano cheese as apposed to the old dried up and tasteless cheese in the canister. I never use old garlic, I use fresh garlic, I dice some then I crush some and throw them in the gravy, I also like to add flavor to the gravy by adding premium sausage from the best pork store you can find to give the gravy a richer and meatier flavor. I would fry the meatballs but we are so worried about additional fats that we drop them in the hot gravy then skim the fatty oils that float to the top. Remember oil gets absorbed into the meat when you fry, although much tastier its a compromise for better health while enjoying this type of food. I also use fresh tomatoes and make my own sauce from the tomatoes. As you will see I have made this video camera friendly and kid friendly. My kids know my real secret and styles for this food.

Now that we live in a huge house with a much better and modern kitchen layout we will be making another cooking video soon and we can do it with no compromises!!

@Cytacon Of yes I have tried foods with a little sea salt. The sea salt has a stronger salty flavor so less can be used thus reducing the sodium intake. I often eat foods with ginger as an added spice since it reduces the desire to want salt added. I mostly add the Ginger to spicy chicken and hot peppers. All good for bringing down the blood pressure. Love experimenting with different kinds of foods.

That explains that. I use sea salt, not too much, just enough to taste. Sea salt is supposed to be better than regular table salt health-wise. Btw, nice recipe , I must try it out… I really like that self heating pot you have there.. Thumbs up from Boston.

    cant see how. This …
cant see how. This was passed on from my grandfather and is known as the best meatballs on this side of Brooklyn NY. The only thing I suggest is Fresh tomatoes as apposed to canned. I don’t eat traditional meatballs anymore unless they are made from ground turkey or chicken since ground beef and pork has too much fat. It is ironic to say an Italian dish made by Italians would be wrong. If it were made by Asians then you would have a valid point. I am not Asian,
