why do home builders put ac vents to blow toward walls or windows instead of facing them to blow into the room?

ive noticed this in some homes. i like to feel the air blowing so ive been thinking of unscrewing them and turn the around to make them vent inward. i really dont get why they face them to vent toward a wall or window.
i understand the aesthetic part of the placement of vents but what im wondering is why are they placed to blow air outwards (blowing air toward windows and walls) instead of inwards (towards the room and people. does this make sense?

Most vents have a lever which operates a set of louvers inside the vent which changes the direction of the airflow. If this doesn’t work, then reversing the vents may be your only option.

As to why builders do that, it’s usually more for aesthetic reasons, as most people don’t want vents in the center of the ceiling. They would also interfere with light fixtures or ceiling fans. That’s why most of them are placed close to windows or walls.

there are plastic register deflectors to attach to the heat registers vents to have them blow even more into the room. I turned my registers around to face the interior, I think the installer just did not notice on some registers because the install was done without the air being on.

This is to insure proper air circulation of the home. Kinda think of it as a cycle when u shoot it toward the walls.

Your heat and cooling loss occurs at windows, doors and outside walls. That is why supply registers are placed in those locations, it is not for aesthetic reasons. You then have return air registers on the ceiling or walls in several rooms, or in a central location, which circulates the air and returns it to the furnace or air handler to be conditioned or heated.
