I live in Toronto, Ontario area and would like to look into alternative ways to build a home and was considering a pre-fab house. I am also interested in average cost per sq. foot finished
I don’t know about Pre-fabs in Toronto area or cost, but I can tell you, I was told by bank and several financial companies that prefabs are better built because of the controlled climate, better control of workers indoors and the fact that they must be transported over a distance.
While a stick built is subject to weather and often shoddy workmanship that we don’t see.
Factor that into the cost.

Go on line and look for modular homes or double-wides. We have a modular and love it. It goes so much faster than a stick built house. You might consider Superior walls for the basement, foundation. Much quicker than concrete block. A little more expensive, but well worth it. Try Virginia homes. Before you get into looking, makes sure you have a contractor that is familiar and licensed to put up modulars. Good luck! We think it is great. djgriffinny had good suggestions, also. What he says is true.
