Get a Realtor, it cost you nothing and they know their stuff, Look for a Real Estate office in the area your interested in and choose one, not your mothers brothers sister-in-laws kid.

Good Luck!
References :
Realtor

Try the county's website. they often times provide historical sale price information.

www.zillow.com can also be helpful.

Your realtor can provide this to you much faster and much more thoroughly than you can find this on your own. Your realtor can find out purchase price and closing costs paid for by seller. that is the true purchase price. County or zillow will not provide you that.
References :
I don't know about Ohio but in Texas sale prices are not public information so you would have to get it from the Realtor's MLS system. Also in the states where it is public information it is normally just the sales price. It would be very important to find out why a home sold for so much or so little- did the seller pay some of the buyer;s closing costs? or re-carpet the home? or some other concession? You would likely need to get that information from your buyer's agent (not the listing agent).
**************
I have found Zillow estimates to several thousands off what homes actually sell for. Click on their button that shows what address's they are using as comparables. In my area the houses they use are not really from the same area and are not similar at all.
References :
a great site to not only figure out an estimate of the worth of a home, but also to find out what others may have paid for their home is called Zillow. Go on there and then type in the address of the house you want to look at. The whole neighborhood will come up. I used this and saved $70,000 on a home. It works well.

Good luck.
References :
www.zillow.com

The site you want is Zillow.com. It has sales comparables on there but the accuracy of their values can be slightly off. It can serve as a starting point but a Realtor is the best bet for sure.
