How do I find homes for 3 older dogs here in Bonita Springs Florida? It has become an issue with our marriage?

These are all adopted and have been a joy to most of us while the kids were younger. My husband and I recently retired, moved here and frankly, to save my marriage, need to find them good homes. one is 13, 2 are 10. 2 lab mixes, 1 chow mix. There are some health issues being treated by medicine and are in control. They are all nice dogs.

I’d think about dumping the husband myself. But honestly, dogs of this age with health problems have very little chance of being adopted. If you believe to the bottom of your soul that getting rid of the dogs is the only choice you have, maybe you should consider putting them all down. I know it sounds super-cruel, but it would be less cruel on these nice old dogs than having them be abandoned at a shelter & then end up being put to sleep with only strangers as comfort. Something to think about.

Craigslist, but be warned: dogs that old are highly unadoptable. They only have a few good years left, can you consider fixing whatever problem they are causing?

You could try Lab rescue see if they can help, Im not sure about the chow. But as everyone has pointed out the odds of senior dogs w/health issues being adopted out of a shelter are pretty much slim to none…Is there any way this could be worked out? Its so sad to see dogs that have spent their whole lives with a family suddenly find themselves homeless alot do not do well in a a shelter situation. In fact the shelter may simply euth the dogs themselves.

If you got them from shelters or rescues, they are to go back to the shelter or rescue you got them from as per the contract you all signed. Those contracts are legally binding for the rest of the dogs’ lives. Doesn’t matter if you got them at 8 weeks old from a shelter or rescue, or 15 years old from a shelter or rescue.

Can I ask why your husband is so against having these dogs? I would not dissolve the marriage. I would fix it if possible, which I’m sure that’s what you are doing. If hubby really cannot handle the dogs anymore(healthwise), then giving them back to the shelters or rescues you got them from is your best option. Unless you can find someone to take to those shelters or rescues to transfer ownership. Shelters and rescues will do that as well. They’ll just have the person you find to fill out the paperwork, and dissolve the contract with you.

The dogs do NOT deserve this. They’ve been a "joy" and now they’re causing problems that will destroy your marriage? Come on. I don’t believe this for a second. Don’t dump your old dogs. Love them for the remainder of their lives. Would you want to be dumped when you’re old?
