The WRAP After-School Program - Evaluation

The goals of the fall program were to help the participants in their transition to new learning environments, to provide homework help that would foster positive attitudes toward learning, and help students develop self-confidence and enthusiasm for learning the skills needed to create new education and employment opportunities.

At the current time all participants in WRAP are registered in and attending school, thereby achieving one of WRAP's main of objectives of dropout prevention and in-school retention. Additionally, five WRAP participants are currently employed part-time at local businesses.

Many of the students who participated in the program were placed at Strengthen Our Sisters shelter by the Department of Youth and Family Services. Unfortunately for some of the participants, they were unable to complete the program because they were either relocated by DYFS or returned to their families.

Many of the students were surprised and delighted by some of the career interests that emerged from the Career Focus Survey. Their further interest and exploration in these areas is consistent with WRAP's objective of expanding our participants' awareness of new career possibilities and alternatives. Some of the younger youth have expressed interest in seeking out further information about education and training for their career interests before they graduate from high school.
