Christmas Lights- When did the custom of placing lights in the windows of homes begin?

I have always wondered about this, can anyone tell me IIIIIIII WANNA KNOW,hmp.

Candles and lights and giving candles as gifts (and exchange of cookies and dolls for children) were used by the ancient Romans during festivals such as Saturnalia and other winter solstice festivals that Saturnalia morphed into before the Roman emperor Constantine decided that the empire should be Christian and criminalized other religions.
