Palestinian homes under threat
In Silwan, a Palestinian neighbourhood near Jerusalem’s Old City, Israeli settlers are increasingly encroaching on Palestinians’ land.
Tension there are high after the Jerusalem municipality approved a controversial plan to demolish 22 Palestinian homes to make way for a park and shopping complex.
The European Union has warned Israel over its plans to demolish dozens of Palestinian homes in occupied East Jerusalem.
“Settlements and the demolition of homes are illegal under international law, constitute an obstacle to peace, and threaten to make a two-state solution impossible,” a statement issued by Catherine Ashton, the EU’s foreign policy chief, said.
Al Jazeera’s Sherine Tadros visited the families whose homes are threatened by Israel’s demolition plans.

U.S. State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said Israel’s decision on Monday to raze 22 Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem is the kind of step that undermines trust fundamental to progress in the proximity talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
The Jerusalem municipal planning committee approved Monday a contentious plan to raze 22 Palestinian homes to make room for a tourist center that Palestinians fear would tighten Israel’s grip on the city’s contested eastern sector.
The plan, which affects the neighborhood of Silwan in East Jerusalem, risks more U.S.-Israeli friction just two weeks ahead of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama…

Estates in Upper Yorba Linda earlier today. Believe it or not there were looky-loos throughout the area as this fire approached; we tried to warn them they only had a few moments, but when this thing hit, the race to get the out was on.
There was an obvious lack of resources available which no doubt contributed to all these multi-million dollar homes going up. There just weren’t enough engines in the area to make a difference. Also, water pressure in the region was pathetically low. The firefighters with me as the front roared through were PRIVATE contracted folks, hired by the folks who owned the massive home we were alongside. They were the only equipment we saw up there for about 40 minutes after the front went through. By then it was too late for many other homes.
This footage was shot in the thick of it all – not down at the bottom of the hill with a cellphone cam! This footage is not for any rebroadcast without prior contact with/consent of the poster!

I am aware that they had limited time to sell their property, often losing money, but there are a few cases where Japanese were immediately forced to relocate, causing them to abandon their homes. What i need to know is what happened to these homes, did the gov’t do anything with them? Where they given back after the camps were closed?
Japanese got nothing back. I saw a documentary on pbs on it. Many actually stayed in the camps cuz nowhere to go.
